Where is Mont Blanc's summit REALLY?
In the words of Frog Leap Studio: Mary, Spender.l, Mary Spender, Mary Spender!
This happened in the faroe Islands as well. One crawled on its knees over, and the rest of the flock learned from her
When I worked in an office in the 1980s, our phones had three lines and the numbers were issued sequentially so if the first line was in use, the incoming call would roll over into the the next available line. Realizing this, I developed a code with my girlfriend to call my office after hours using the third number so I would know it was her and not someone else. So in your case, a person could have misdialed the last number but still reach their friend.
I'm surprised some people still don't know about this behavior. I've heard about it so many times from so many different sources.
What was the plan for this question if nobody knew how to decode hex colours though?
why is everyone wearing red
Before clicking on this my train of thought was of a certain russian aircraft carrier 😆
I know which one you mean 😉
East of Florida, I was thinking Bermuda Triangle
I thought it might have been part of the 1986 shuttle launch
a knife fight has more understandable rules than Australian rules football.
If make enough jokes about forming a heist team, then they can actually carry out one of their heists, and no one will suspect them. It’s all part of the plan 😎
They got the colors wrong though, Tom Scott's shirt is "Cardinal" and they all wore red. If nothing else this show demonstrates that details matter!
The Brits call it lee-cure?
This one was way too easy. Never heard of it and I figured it out before the end of the second repeat.
My nearest pharmacy here in Montreal sells so much food and at such a low prices that I buy most of my food there. So for me, it could be anything.
I love that Tom Scott adopted these three small children that were not alive in 1994! (Yes, I know they're all adults)
I'm calling it: if we get another clip from this episode, two of the contestants will be Tom Roper and Tom Hubber. I don't know what'll become of Tom Lum's moniker. Maybe they'll call him Scott Thomas.
Maybe Ella Caroline, or Scott Lum, or Nottom Lum
Is rescuing a person in the middle of the sea considering "salvage"? Do they get to keep 12.5% of that persons worth? 👀
The only mid-nineties tugging I could think of was Monica Lewinsky, but apparently that only started in 1995.
3:24 Repo and salvage are not remotely the same thing.
Great Scott!
Tom Lum almost saying "I'd like to publicly apologize for Florida"
That’s my favourite episode!
So coordinated today
4:08 None of us where alive, Mate xD
When tom asked "who was chris?" I instinctively said out loud "Chris Hadfield" and was suprised i was actually right
I love tugboats.
“Both Tom’s chuckle” got me good
Before I watch, I want to see if I got it. I once heard something about boats salvaging shipwrecks, as you cannot legally charge to rescue someone on the ocean. Might have been a reward from the owners.
Well not right, but close enough
@@DJR000 Well, if you take a broad enough view of the word "shipwreck" to include *space*ships . . . 😄
What a cute polycule.
The last names... It's Oscar Piastri-Leclerc all over again
TomScottland
Not Scotts, only Scottish.
@@pattheplanter They all look quite tomscottish
I thought the one named Scott in the red shirt was the funniest.
At 0:41 I definitely expected Tom to semiquote Monty Python: "My tugboat is full of sea lions".
I can't remember which channel now, but there was a recent video that discusses maritime salvage laws. So when Tom mentioned that, i am like I know the laws just not this specific story.
Half As Interesting? I don't watch the channel fyi
MORE TOM, ELLA AND CAROLINE, I love them! 💜🐝💜🐌💜 (but mostly Ella, Ella is bae)
I got salvage, I got it wasn't the tugboat itself, but what the tugboat in turn was tugging. But did not guess the cargo.
You did it you beautiful nerds.
I wanna join that discord 💔
To be fair to Tom L., I live in Florida, I've been to Cape Canaveral several times, and I *still* thought something like 'barge piled with bricks of cocaine' would be part of the story.
Hahahah okay good I'm glad
There were 50% fewer alligators and/or exotic drugs for it to be a true Florida Man story.
I wonder if salvaging a barge full of illegal drugs gets one a share of the value or arrested? It probably depends on whether it's being salvaged before or after the police get to it …
i don't live in florida, and all i thought was old retired white dudes and alligators >.<
It's Florida, in the '90s. What do you expect to find moving off the coast?
Totally the wrong shade of red tho.
Thanks!
Appreciated!
The fact they went to “Queen Victoria Top Trumps” first is wild.
Please tell me the money went to the tanker crew, not to the uber-rich oil company. What? Can’t one dream anymore?
Oh yeah, the award mentioned was for the crew; the owner of the salvaging vessel got a similar award from the court (since the rescue wouldn't have been possible without the tanker itself existing and operating - the crew couldn't have done it on their own). But that's how salvage law works: you rescue a ship that was going to sink without your help, you are entitled to a % of that ship's value (including cargo) since it would have been COMPLETELY lost if not for you; the owner of the rescued vessel is lucky you acted. Some of the oldest laws in the books.
@@empath69 Glad to hear that. Crews on supertankers are not exactly billionaires. Frightful job. Glad they saw some of that dough.
I completely understand that Lateral has to be a podcast instead of a vodcast. But still being able to have snippets of the podcast in video form allows us to see this precious gem of Tom Scott, Caroline Scott, Ella Scott and Tom Scott Lunior.
Why does it have to be a podcast? Genuinely curious, I don't know too much about this. I just really enjoy these videos more.
When our podcast platform supports video (currently in beta), we hope to offer full video as well. The two mediums are slowly merging together.
@@lateralcast isn't spotify already offering video streaming?
@@lateralcast Thank you for the fast reply!
@@lateralcast This is nail-bitingly exciting news!
What a great gag this was. :D
Nice that an oil company was able to make a little extra money, they struggle so much...
I got "Salvage law" immediately, but never guessed WHAT they were towing.
I think "(wheezes bewilderedly)" might be my new favorite subtitle of all time.
Was the tugboat named Theodore Tugboat? (Think "Thomas the Tank Engine", but it's in Canada, and with boats in a harbour, and with Denny Doherty instead of Ringo Starr.)
